4 Ups And 4 Downs From Last Night's WWE SmackDown (Feb 21)

1. A Clumsy Conclusion

SmackDown's main event was a fun 10-man battle royal that generally did a good job of showcasing everybody involved. Even deadwood like Mojo Rawley and Apollo Crews felt like they were there for a reason, and it never seemed like their only purpose was to pad the numbers out. It ultimately failed to produce a number one contender, but while this isn't necessarily a bad thing, the execution was very sloppy.

Luke Harper and AJ Styles made the final two, and WWE tried to pull a double elimination spot. Harper pulled Styles out of the ring and to the floor, but eliminated himself in the process, and WWE played-off the idea that both of their feet hit the deck at the same time. The referees called it a draw, and Daniel Bryan booked an official number one contender's bout between the duo for next week.

It's a solid enough booking decision, but the spot wasn't well-executed at all. Styles' feet clearly hit the ground before Harper's, and it was very telling that WWE didn't show a single replay in the aftermath. Even the live crowd noticed it, and after chanting Harper's name during the referees' deliberation period, they booed the eventual decision loudly.

A tricky spot to execute, but the clumsy finish closed SmackDown on a disappointingly sour note. On the bright side, Harper vs. Styles should be a tremendous singles bout.
