4 Ups And 4 Downs From Last Night’s WWE NXT (June 10)
2. Boring Corbin
It must be getting as boring for the readers to read about Baron Corbin as it is to write about him, but there we go. Last night he had a match with Angelo Dawkins and it was more of the same. He is still just a finishing move. Sure, he slams people into turnbuckles and pushes them over quite hard, but that's the sum total of his move-set. These endless squash matches are doing nothing for Corbin right now and the constant exposure he's getting on TV is only going to build fan resentment. NXT may be attempting to harness that heat, but it's a difficult backlash to tame, as fans don't love to hate him, they're just getting sick of seeing him. His matches aren't serving any real story, other than 'look it's Baron Corbin again, isn't End Of Days a good finisher?' Of course, NXT is a developmental territory first and foremost, but Corbin isn't really developing here. Normally, NXT pride themselves on their long-term booking, but booking Corbin lose to Adrian Neville back in February was a big mistake. These squashes might be more palatable if they were serving something tangible, like an undefeated streak, but right now fans are getting impatient for Corbin to just do something. His mini-feud with Rhyno looked interesting, but only lasted about a fortnight. NXT seem to regard him as too interesting to take off TV, but not good enough in the ring to hang with the top stars. That is a tricky sport for Corbin to be in. Here's hoping that the company find an actual storyline for the Lone Wolf to sink his teeth into.
