4 Ups And 4 Downs From Last Night's WWE SmackDown (Apr 16)

2. Neville Continues To Look Like A Star Against Sheamus

The best match on the show was Sheamus taking on Neville. It was a perfect matchup for Sheamus because his whole character is about picking on the smaller guys. While Neville is a shorter guy, he's certainly tough and has a lot of athleticism, so it's easy to route for him in a match like this. It was a really well put together match for the 11 minutes that they got. When Neville started his comeback the crowd really got into it. As mentioned, when one guy is smaller than the other it's easy to route for that person. The fact that Neville is so entertaining certainly helps. The commentary team did a great job of putting over how important it would be for Neville to beat him. How about that corkscrew splash by Neville off the middle rope? Fantastic. Few people in WWE can do a move like that. It's why he's going to stand out from the crowd. The finish of the match probably upset some fans because they went with a disqualification. The story is that Sheamus was unable to put Neville away, so he just decided to say screw it and got himself intentionally disqualified. The way they did the disqualification with Sheamus slamming Neville on the announce table may not seem like a big deal, but it could be interpreted that Sheamus used an object as a weapon, so that's why the ref called for the bell. What that finish sets up is a future rivalry for them. They could have a really good feud down the road just based on the fact that Sheamus couldn't beat Neville before. More matches between them will be a great thing.
