4 Ups And 4 Downs From NXT In Your House 2022

NXT probably feels like they’re giving Bron Breakker a full education into what it means to be a WWE superstar by having him go through this goofy, abysmal storyline with Joe Gacy, but it really has been a disaster from the jump.

Saturday’s NXT Championship match was hopefully the final bad chapter in a putrid book. The bout was part in-ring competition, part subpar pathos, as Breakker “struggled” to keep his emotions in check, because if he was DQ’d, he’d lose the title.

Gacy obviously kept trying to egg him into taking shortcuts, repeatedly introducing a chair into the match. And while Bron would resist, Gacy would cheat at will, to no avail.

The problem here is that what made Breakker special out of the gate was his explosive nature and athleticism, so having him do this bad acting in a 15-minute match rather than just a 6-8 minute sprint really just exposes a guy with fewer than 30 career matches.

In reality, Gacy should have tempted Breakker with the chair once, and then Bron cuts the Gordian Knot by tossing it back, spearing him and vanquishing this goof. And it should have happened weeks ago on NXT 2.0, avoiding the comically bad build. But such is life.

He fortunately became a fan in time for WrestleMania III and came back as a fan after a long high school hiatus before WM XIV. Monday nights in the Carlson household are reserved for viewing Raw -- for better or worse.
