4 Ups And 4 Downs From NXT UK TakeOver: Cardiff

3. Cold Coffey

How could Dave Mastiff and Joe Coffey follow the sheer euphoria that was Flash Morgan Webster and Mark Andrews crowning themselves WWE's first-ever Welsh champions before an adoring crowd? The answer was not particularly brilliantly - though not particularly terribly, either.

Last-man standing contests are laborious affairs at the best of times, but with the Motorpoint Arena notably drained, it took a while for two of NXT UK's slowest men to build any sort of momentum. There was an injection of excitement early on when Mastiff, dressed like a Butlins' Vader, launched Coffey into the turnbuckle, causing it to dramatically dislodge (obviously gimmicked during the lengthy interval; this is WWE afterall) but things soon devolved into disconnected destruction.

"This is getting hard to watch," opined McGuinness, as the match continued as an unfocused series of weapon shots. Eventually, things migrated to the pre-show area, where the two men very obviously telegraphed that they'd take a tumble. A Premier League style headbutt - ie, weak as p*ss - pushed them over the edge, and it came to an underwhelming conclusion when Coffey kicked a travelling case out from under Mastiff to keep him down for the count. Most people in attendance were caught entirely cold by it.

Benjamin was born in 1987, and is still not dead. He variously enjoys classical music, old-school adventure games (they're not dead), and walks on the beach (albeit short - asthma, you know). He's currently trying to compile a comprehensive history of video game music, yet denies accusations that he purposefully targets niche audiences. He's often wrong about these things.
