4 Ups And 7 Downs From WWE Hell In A Cell 2018

2. Rematch Begets Another Rematch

At SummerSlam, AJ Styles and Samoa Joe battled until Joe taunted Styles’ wife, at which point the WWE Champion lost his cool and waffled the challenger with a steel chair for the DQ.

That was an unsatisfying finish, but it set the table for a rematch, with a month’s worth of creepiness from Joe. That match served a purpose, and we got that rematch Sunday night. And it ended with AJ reversing the Coquina Clutch into a pin… only for Styles to tap out at 2 and for the ref to miss it.

So we once again have a WWE Championship match with an inconclusive finish. It’s the kind of thing where you just have to groan because it’s lazy to pull this type of thing twice, setting up a third match between the two.

The saving grace is that the match will probably be pretty good, but patience is wearing thin.
