It was after defeating JBL for the WWE title, that John Cena desecrated the belt with a "spinner" facelift. He's also done this with the US Title, but doing it to the WWE Title was a whole other level of wrong. The belt design had prestige before Cena got his hands on it. He turned it into what looked like a child's toy. It would become a theme of his belt reigns. It was also the start of fans resenting him. He took something that had class, and he made it look like a joke. It was the beginning of fans hating Cena, and it would be years before he'd win respect in his role of champion. Then again, with sales of merchandise for the spinner gimmick, maybe he and WWE look back thinking it was worth it.
