41. WWE Cut The Reid Line From The Paige/Charlotte Promo
The WWE suffered a major fan and PR backlash this week after the already-infamous segment from Raw in which Paige taunted Charlotte by referring to her dead brother Reid as "weak", referring to the drug use which brought his life to an untimely end. Ric Flair later stated that he wasn't informed about the angle ahead of time and it brought him to tears as he watched, while noting that Charlotte unfortunately isn't in a position to say no to the suggestion, and he didn't want to elaborate for fear of comprising her place in the company (not to mention his own Legends contract). The web is filled with articles decrying the angle as lazy and offensive, and the WWE have clearly taken note, because when the Paige-Charlotte promo aired on the kick-off show and once again on the PPV itself, no reference at all was made to this line, which really is just for the best. But rather than hold their hands up and just admit their mistake, the company is reportedly now preventing talent from doing interviews on "non-approved" podcasts.
