5 Awful Wrestling Halloween Gimmick Matches You Need To Know About
3. Spin The Wheel, Make The Deal
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WgT5ta5oWCcIn 1992, Jake Roberts left the World Wrestling Federation after one too many false promises and turned up in WCW, causing an immediate stir when he set his eyes on The Icon, Sting. The Snake would get a pinfall victory over WCWs franchise at the Clash Of The Champions in September, which would lead to the singles showdown at the next month's Halloween Havoc.
In one of the greatest cinematic masterpieces to ever grace the screen, WCWs mini movie for Spin The Wheel, Make The Deal had Jake in a bar straight out of a horror movie, a man in a cage dressed as Hannibal Lecter, some grungy bikers and then, from the light stepped Sting to confront the dastardly Roberts.
Jake looked Sting in the eyes & proclaimed that At Halloween Havoc, your worst nightmare will come true. The Hall of Famer explained that thered be 12 of the most gruesome matches in wrestling on a wheel and theyd compete at one at the pay per-view. It could be a Barbed Wire Match, a Cage Match or 10 other brutal choices. Just spin the wheel and the deal...
In the end, we got A Coal Miners Glove Match. The premise was like any other XXX On A Pole Match - you grabbed the glove and then got to use it on your opponent. So after a mini movie and some great Jake promos, it led to the two men fighting over a glove theyd get to use? Luckily, Sting would get Roberts cobra to bite him in the face after the match, so at least it kind of lived up to the billing...
This match stipulation is one of WCWs worst but the biggest shame is that the Jake Roberts of the early 90s and the bright-eyed babyface Sting were great together and deserved a much better stipulation than this to showcase their talents.
