The narrative on John Cena since he began his run at the top of the company in 2005 was that he has a lot of friends, but a lot of enemies/haters as well. Apparently, his friends aren’t successful enough to win tag team championships with him, but his enemies are. Cena is a four-time tag team champion, and none of his partners wanted to be his partners.

Two of Cena’s championship partners were his Wrestlemania opponents. In 2007, he won the tag titles with Shawn Michaels, and they became the first tag team champions to main event Wrestlemania against one another (even though neither brought their tag championship belt to the ring for the match).

In 2011, he and The Miz defeated Heath Slater and Justin Gabriel for the belts, but lost them later that night. Cena and Bastista won the belts from Legacy in 2008, but lost them a week later. It seemed that the only reason to put the tag championship on Cena was because it was a prop for his current main event feud, and using any championship as a prop for something else seriously devalues the belt. But none of these three reigns with a reluctant partner are nearly as bad as the fourth.
