SmackDown’s tag team division is incredibly disjointed at the moment. Some weeks, it looks like the blue brand are creating a thriving, competitive division by telling multiple stories and highlighting several teams at once. Others, the show’s focus is entirely on the champions, and there’s barely a mention of those operating outside title contention.

This week’s show fell into the latter category. Heath Slater and Rhyno partook in a six-man tag match, the outcome of which suggests that the Spirit Squad might be their next contenders, and that was all. The SmackDown tag division was used as a backdrop for the ongoing rivalry between The Miz and Dolph Ziggler, and there was barely a mention of two of the division's top teams: American Alpha and The Usos.

Alpha and The Usos have developed a decent rivalry in recent weeks, and it continued when Jimmy Uso stole a victory over Chad Gable last week. Sadly, there was no follow-up last night, and while SmackDown obviously can’t feature every wrestler every week, you’d think they’d at least find space for their tag division’s most interesting story. Unfortunately they did not, and the heat they built last week is all but gone.
