3. Winner: Brock Lesnar

As potentially damaging as SummerSlam’s main event was to Randy Orton and SmackDown has a whole, Brock Lesnar won’t give a damn. The Beast is well and truly back, and after battering The Viper for close to twelve minutes, there’s little doubt that WWE are going all-in on Lesnar again.

This is the most dangerous that Brock has looked since feuding with John Cena throughout 2014. There were echoes of Lesnar’s domination over Cena at this very event two years ago throughout his match with Orton, and it’s clear that WWE have lost no faith in Lesnar through his failed USADA drug tests. Whether you buy into his act or not, Lesnar is a big deal again, even though the potential Shane McMahon match isn’t exactly a mouth-watering prospect.

Lesnar was always likely to win this match. It was branded “predictable” from the moment it was first announced, though WWE have done a good job building intrigue through Lesnar and Orton’s invasions of SmackDown and Raw respectively. The contest had a strong “big fight” feel, and while a longer, more cohesive match would’ve been nice, WWE couldn’t have put Lesnar over more effectively.

Winning the main event in such an assertive fashion would make Brock as the night’s biggest winner on any other occasions, but there are two men who had him stumped last night...
