3. Nate Diaz Vs. Jorge Masvidal: The BMF Cut

Similar to a referee, the ringside physician has the unfavorable job of directly affecting the outcome of a fight, potentially spoiling all of the fun in the process. The only time these guys receive a pop from the crowd is when they announce that a fighter is able to continue and they didn't need to be in there in the first place.

As you can imagine, when Nate and Jorge talked their way to headlining MSG for a belt that had never been fought for previously, it was a big deal. After the fight was signed and announced, the MMA world began to predict and discuss how the fight would go, considering Masvidal's recent finishes against Darren Till and Ben Askren - as well as that legendary Diaz cardio. Cardio which wouldn't come to fruition after a kick to Nate’s noggin opened up a juicy cut, which required a doctor's inspection and subsequent decision to end it there and then.

Moments like this are not what fans pay hard-earned money for. This is not how you want to win a title or end a fight card at the combat Mecca, especially when dealing with a dog the like of Nate Diaz. However, I don't fancy seeing a person's skull through the front of their face. Go ahead, call me squeamish.

The fact of the matter is, Jorge caused that cut not through mistake but technique. That, amongst repeatedly wounding his opponent in different ways throughout those early rounds. Yes, he was slowing down and yes the later rounds are when Nate shines, but Stockton's finest has to get to those rounds, may be bruised, may be bloody, but in one piece to do so.

There's a reason that most titles are called undisputed championships, rather than Doctor's Decision Championships. Sorry doc.
