When Eddie Guerrero and Rey Mysterio began feuding in 2005, the matches that occurred as a result were pure in-ring gold. Not so golden was the storyline that surrounded them; developing from a simple case of tag team jealousy into full-blown soap opera dramatics.

Despite being Tag Team Champions at the time, Rey and Eddie wrestled one-on-one in the opening bout of WrestleMania 21 in a fantastic, fast-paced encounter. Guerrero came up short in the match, setting the wheels in motion for the feud that followed and sowing the seeds for an impending heel turn for "Latino Heat".

Eddie and Rey would lose the Tag Titles to MNM (John Morrison and Joey Mercury) soon after due to Guerrero abandoning his partner mid-match. Guerrero's betrayal would be accentuated momentarily in the post-match, delivering a vicious beating to his former partner to solidifying the full heel turn. So far, so good…

Shortly thereafter, however, Guerrero would begin threatening his former ally, claiming to have a dark secret involving Rey Rey’s familia - specifically his son, Dominick. It eventually came out that Eddie was Dominick’s father, having left him at birth to Rey and his wife as they were having trouble starting a family.

The angle would reach its climax at SummerSlam ‘05 in a - sigh - “Custody of Dominick” Ladder Match, with the custody papers high above the ring. Yes, this legitimately happened. Luckily for Rey, he won the match and retained legal custody of son. Órale vato!

While this storyline was far-fetched to begin with, long-time fans of Mysterio will recall his latter WCW days where he performed without a mask and the fact that Dominick strongly resembled Rey and looked the spitting image of his dad did nothing to help validate the believability of the angle.

On the plus side, the storyline did give birth to the brilliant “I’m Your Papi” shirt worn by Guerrero throughout the feud, which has gone on to become a cult favourite in years since.
