5 Most Insane Things Happening In Wrestling Right Now (August 17)

2. Jeff Jarrett: Legend

As first reported by PWInsider, Jeff Jarrett has this week filed a lawsuit against Impact Wrestling parent company Anthem Sports. Jarrett alleges that Impact has wrongfully monetised his 'Global Force Wrestling' intellectual property.

The May 2017 merger was never formalised, rendering the decision to rebrand Impact as GFW premature as well as delightfully stupid. And, accordingly, Impact should not have distributed the 'Amped' TV show across any platform, much less its Global Wrestling Network, the name and logo of which Jarrett has also cited as an infringement of copyright.

This isn't what's insane here; what is is the marvellous manner in which Jeff Jarrett has described himself in the complaint. This - credit David Bixenspan for his sublime spot of sleuthing - is more Jeff Jarrett than taking a guitar to the back of a promising midcarder's bloody head. He has referred to himself as having earned "seventy-seven (77)" championship reigns throughout his career", and, brilliantly, referred to himself as a "seventeen-time" World Heavyweight Champion, meaning that, when John Cena breaks Ric Flair's "record", he'll have only tied Jarrett's.

John Cena Vs. Jeff Jarrett, WrestleMania 36, a Champion of Champions match: Ain't that a great main event?

Jarrett has counted each of his four WCW World Title reigns, which is fair enough, even if the first three of which amounted to seventeen days. He has included also his six reigns with the NWA World Title, which is more optimistic, but technically not incorrect. His two World Wrestling All-Stars reigns are included within that number too, the cheeky b*stard. The Australian money mark league was basically made up of every wrestler the WWF didn't bother hoovering up after the purchase of WCW, and they hoovered up Shawn Stasiak.

He also captured the USWA Unified World Heavyweight Championship when that company wasn't even a doomed attempt at a national, but a glorified territory, and the AAA 'Mega' Championship, which is more ironically named than his intellectual property.

Jarrett is seeking "treble" the amount that airing Amped has earned thus far...best get back to selling pyramid schemes, then.
