5 Most Insane Things Happening In Wrestling Right Now (Jan 25)
4. Seth Rollins Compares Himself To Martin Luther King
Seth Rollins had the following to say on Monday's RAW:
"One thing I saw today, one quote that I saw that really stuck with me, Dr. King said "the ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands during times of comfort and convenience, but where he stands during times of challenge and controversy."
CYNICAL CUT TO: a black family at ringside.
Rollins continued: "And that hit me a lot, because my life's kinda been nothing but challenge and controversy as of late. Why, just last week I was assassinated on the balcony of a motel by a racist gunman."
Conflating the words of Martin Luther Freakin' King with a pro wrestling storyline was not particularly well-judged by RAW's dismal creative staff. For those counting, those hacks have thus far used leukaemia and the civil rights movement to get Rollins over as a main event babyface. Really, the whole thing was a focus group babyface promo, one that Rollins actually did well to steer away from the depths. "My whole life has been a long shot," Rollins went on.
"I'm not your stereotypical WWE star," the pushed personal project of Triple H said. "I'm not from your town, but I could be. Just imagine I am, for the purposes of this promo. My folks were working class. I could be working in a factory, I could be working on a farm - I could be driving a truck, man. I'm not - I entered wrestling at an early age, and quickly became successful at it - but I could be, and that's what's important here."
At this rate, over the next few weeks, the writers/Vince will script Hypothetical Truck Driver Rollins to have us reach and touch the screen.
