5 Most Insane Things Happening In Wrestling Right Now (Jan 5)
4. Goldust: Cruiserweight
Drew Gulak and Ariya Daivari, suddenly handed match-making powers (seriously, get bloody rid of General Managers, for the love of Christ) issued a challenge to Cedric Alexander on this week's RAW. If he wanted competition, he could have it - in a tag team match.
"The two of us," Ariya explained, "against you, and anyone that walks down that ramp. You don't have many friends around here, so good luck on somebody coming out."
Quick reminder that, on the previous episode of RAW, Alexander teamed with buddies Mustafa Ali and Akira Tozawa to defeat Gulak, Daivari and Enzo Amore. On the following episode of 205 Live, Alexander teamed with Ali to defeat Gulak and Daivari. Neither of his recent partners were incapacitated, nor had he fallen out with them. What's more, there are more babyfaces on the existing 205 Live roster (Hideo Itami, Lince Dorado, Gran Metalik), and, if the entire history of WWE is a decent source, all babyfaces are automatically mates.
Alexander did find a buddy in Goldust - definitely not a Cruiserweight, not that rules matter in the f*cking slightest - but he's somebody of name value with no creative direction, so he'll do. 205 Live resembles NXT Redemption more and more by the week, except it's not particularly entertaining. "I hope Enzo's watchin'!" Michael Cole said as Alexander secured the pin. Given the viewing numbers, it was optimistic.
It's a bizarre direction for the Bizarre One.
