5 New Names Announced For WWE's Mae Young Classic Tournament
Nine participants confirmed so far...
On Thursday, WWE announced five additional competitors for the summer's upcoming Mae Young Classic tournament, which will pit 32 female grapplers against each other in the style of last summer's Cruiserweight Classic. The added participants are:
Abbey Laith - Formerly independent standout Kimber Lee, Laith's six-year career has seen her capture several tag team championships with the likes of Cherry Bomb and Annie Social, as well as reign as Chikara Grand Champion.
Tessa Blanchard - The daughter of Tully Blanchard and the granddaughter of Joe Blanchard, Tessa is currently one half of the Shimmer Tag Team Champions. She has also competed for Japan's Stardom promotion and has made multiple NXT appearances.
Jazzy Gabert - Also known as "Alpha Female," the German Gabert has held several titles in Stardom, including the company's main "World of Stardom" Championship. She has also made appearances with Total Nonstop Action and has competed in a pair of MMA matches.
Kavita Devi - A former powerlifter and kabaddi player, Devi was trained by The Great Khali and has competed for his Continental Wrestling Entertainment promotion.
Taynara Conti - Brazilian judoka Conti was signed by WWE in 2016 despite a lack of in-ring experience, but she has been training in the Performance Center since.
These five women join four who were already announced for the tournament - Toni Storm, Princess Sugehit, Lacey Evans, and Sarah Logan.
