5 Reasons Sheamus Cashing In Was Best For Business

2. He Has Plenty Of Main Event Experience

Seth Rollins' injury, combined with John Cena, Randy Orton and Brock Lesnar being out for a variety of reasons, left WWE with a lack of main event performers at their disposal. Of the 16 men involved in the WWE World Heavyweight Championship tournament, only five had previously held top level gold in the company. Sheamus was one, and the other four - Big Show, The Miz, Dolph Ziggler and Alberto Del Rio - don't exactly set the imagination on fire. By proceeding with the tournament WWE had two choices; either go with a new, unproven face on top or revert back to an experienced head. The former would seem like the finer choice, given the names in the latter category. Of the five, it could be argued that Sheamus was the most proven as a champion. Big Show has been around forever but has had a grand total of zero memorable title reigns. The Miz's reign was largely forgettable, Ziggler's was over before it began and Alberto Del Rio has only nothingness behind his eyes these days... Sheamus' last run as World Champion wasn't too bad, either. His series of matches with Daniel Bryan were fantastic, and whilst the Del Rio feud was questionable in content, the matches consistently delivered. He even got a good couple of bouts out of Big Show! Recent booking aside, it could be argued that Sheamus was the safe, smart choice to emerge from Survivor Series on top.
