5 Reasons The Sasha Vs Charlotte Title Changes Haven't Been A Bad Thing
4. It Has Made History
Women’s wrestling hasn’t had an easy ride. The ‘divas’ of WWE were nothing more than eye candy and bathroom breaks at one point, despite the talent that has passed through the company over the years. Charlotte and Sasha have been pushing the boundaries since NXT. Both superstars put on acclaimed matches during their time in developmental and Sasha Banks already made history with Bayley with the first ever women’s Iron Man match in the promotion.
The two women have continued to shatter the glass ceiling this past year. They have been given opportunities and put on longer matches that would never have been seen three years ago. Paige, AJ Lee, and the Bella Twins were given a ten minute tag match at WrestleMania 31 that was thrown on the card due to #GiveDivasAChance. WrestleMania 32 saw Sasha, Charlotte, and Becky Lynch compete in a twenty minute triple threat match complete with entrances on par with the male talent, as well as the entire rebranding of the Women’s division.
Since then, Sasha and Charlotte have main evented Raw twice, main evented a WWE PPV, competed in the first ever women’s Hell in a Cell match, as well as the second women’s Falls Count Anywhere match in WWE history. It was only last year that fellow NXT alumni Paige was competing in never ending ten minute matches for Nikki Bella’s Divas Championship. As on-going as their feud has been, there’s no denying that it has raised the stakes for women’s wrestling as a whole.
