Heel AJ Styles in 2016 absolutely loathed James Ellsworth. The ‘man with two hands’ was being used by Dean Ambrose as prop in his mind games against the WWE Champion. At 180 lbs. soaking wet, with his unconventional physique and aw shucks attitude, there was no way that the 32 year old should ever win a match against a man who has held championships in most of today’s major promotions. He won three.

Styles’ headaches began when he challenged Ellsworth to a match on SmackDown Live. In the interest of fairness, because Daniel Bryan, the General Manager named Dean Ambrose the special guest referee for the bout. Relatively quickly, the obvious happened and Ambrose incapacitated Styles so that Ellsworth could get the pin.

Ellsworth’s dodgy win somehow earned him a WWE Championship match the very next week. He won that match too, poor bugger, but by disqualification. He was left thoroughly, and rightfully, beaten at the end of the match.

Finally, James Ellsworth (or Dean Ambrose, depending on how you look at it) defeated AJ Styles in a ladder match, earning himself a WWE contract that apparently ran for one year. What a run.
