5 Times WWE Failed John Cena At WrestleMania

2. WrestleMania XXVII's Rotten Main Event

Today, The Miz is one of the most dependable stars on WWE's payroll. Back in 2011, he was still finding his feet and was nowhere near ready to work the main event slot at WrestleMania XXVII. If anything, an earlier No Holds Barred match between The Undertaker and Triple H should have gone on last.

By comparison to that, Miz vs. Cena was a 15-minute snore only notable for The Rock's interference. The next night on Raw, everyone found out why WWE had even bothered to book the match in the first place: they wanted to promote an epic "Once In A Lifetime" (more on that imminently) showdown between Rock and Cena 12 months later.

That was it. A WWE Title main event at WrestleMania was used as set-up for another, more enticing match.

Again, this may have been more forgivable, had Cena vs. Miz not been the final match at 'Mania XXVII. That slot should go to the most exciting scenario WWE can think of, not a by-the-numbers TV match that makes both champion and challenger look second best to a returning part-timer.
