5 Ups & 3 Downs From Last Night's WWE Smackdown Live (Aug 23)
3. Down - Same Old Stuff
At the top of the hour, Randy Orton and his head staples came down to the ring to address the SummerSlam match with Brock Lesnar. Orton talked about his disappointment in the finish of the bout, saying that he'd rather have been stretchered out unconscious than have the match end the way it did. Nevertheless, what happened happened, and he was confident his and Brock's paths would cross again.
At that point, Randy seemed ready to move onto new business, but he was interrupted by Bray Wyatt. Not many stars have had less character development over the past few years than Wyatt, and his stagnancy was on full display here - he did the same "pick a feud out of nowhere and say some cryptic things" shtick he always does. He called Randy a great man, but said that he was a god, and gods can't die. Apparently, they can't get booked on Pay-Per-View, either.
The segment ended with the lights going out, and when they came back on, Wyatt was gone. Orton was puzzled, and then the lights went out again to end the segment. We've all seen this before, and we know where it goes - a few months of a lackluster program that Bray Wyatt loses.
