5 Ups & 3 Downs From WWE SmackDown (Jan 10)

2. The Lack Of Real Follow-Up On Sheamus

Sheamus' comeback attack on Shorty G set the table for a bullying angle that'd assert the Irishman's dominance over perceived lackeys like Gable. The feud is a fine use of both, will lead to some solid matches and gives Sheamus a nice re-entry point before he starts challenging for titles again.

This week was a step backwards.

Sheamus returned to his backstage vignettes and cut a pedestrian promo on Shorty without any real follow-up on the attack. Neither man was there in person, and fans didn't even hear the babyface's perspective on what happened. It was almost like nothing had happened, and Sheamus was still waiting to return.

A quick squash match over some local jobbers and a promo on Gable afterwards would've been better. Instead, WWE gave Elias a few minutes to perform a song that failed to hit the mark and didn't even announce anything anyway.
