Good booking during a wrestling match can do a hell of a lot more than generate star ratings. It can tell stories and set up the next chapter of an angle perfectly.

That was the case during the women’s WarGames match, which saw Bayley repeatedly save her teammates from pinfalls, submissions and offensive moves in the waning minutes of the battle. She broke up a Disarm-Her on Kairi Sane, saved Iyo Sky from a Figure Eight, and shoved Kairi out of the way of a Charlotte Flair spear.

But Bayley fell victim to the numbers game and ate the entire babyface team’s finishers, including an avalanche Manhandle Slam through a table for the defeat.

The announcers called attention to the reality that the Role Model had saved the match for her team numerous times; a point that underscores her dedication to the team, which will make the rest of Damage CTRL turning on her even more impactful, and turning Bayley into a more sympathetic figure.

At least, that’s how things appear to be lining up. Time will tell.
