5 Ups & 4 Downs From AEW Dark (May 12)
1. Fenix & Angels Cut Loose
Alan Angels provoked much handwringing when he and Kenny Omega worked a six-minute Dynamite match throughout which the overmatched enhancement talent went toe-to-toe with 'The Best Bout Machine' to an extent that nullified the squash rub. The over-the-top reaction didn't befit a clash too insignificant to warrant such in-depth draggery, but such is the nature of online discourse in 2020.
Now established as a clever competitor who can hang with higher-level wrestlers, Angels put on another good performance against Rey Fenix, whose creativity makes every situation worth watching. They cut loose here. Rather than just getting in, flattening Angels, and getting out, Rey gave his opponent plenty, and the result was a match far more fun than a two-minute pounding could have been.
AEW may yet do something with Angels, whom they seem to be going out of their way to present on a level above the rest of the enhancement cast. It'd be interesting to see what he can do against somebody like Fenix in a longer bout.
