5 Ups & 4 Downs From AEW Dynamite (2 Feb)

2. The Ballad Of Bryan & Jon

Jon Moxley Bryan Danielson
AEW

It was wise of AEW to give Wheeler Yuta more than the usual hope spots opposite Jon Moxley last night. Mox has already squashed the up-and-comer, so why do that again? Rather than having the former World Champion flatten his young opponent again, AEW showed growth in Yuta by having him hang for longer, engineering genuine drama with a couple of believable near-falls before Mox finally put him down with a great finishing run, culminating in the Paradigm Shift.

Danhausen, by the way, was over as hell once more. This act is going to work in AEW. 100%.

But as good as the match was, greater intrigue came from the segment afterwards, as Bryan Danielson hit the ring ready to take his interest in Moxley to the next level.

It was an excellent promo from Danielson without Moxley ever answering back. Rather than challenging him to a fight, he suggested they team up, taking young guns like Yuta, Daniel Garcia, and Lee Moriarty under their wing, ensuring their own legacies would dominate wrestling for decades to come. Maintaining the heel edge found in his 'Hangman' Adam Page feud while teasing ideas that sound fantastic across the board, it was masterful stuff from Bryan.

Moxley didn't answer. Danielson offered a hand at first, then retracted, saying he understood the pressure. The story continues.

Essentially, AEW teased a bunch of things you really want to see in this segment. Danielson vs. Moxley, Danielson and Moxley teaming up, the young guns coming under their wing... all of that sounds great. As does throwing the injured Eddie Kingston into the mix. What will he think of all this, given his own wars with Danielson?
