5 Ups & 4 Downs From AEW Dynamite (4 May)

1. Wardlow Rules

MJF showed his hand when he dropped W. Morrissey's old WWE catchphrases as part of last week's tease, but the former Big Cass was still an effective roadblock for hire against Wardlow last night.

This was another triumph in a long string of them for MJF's old bodyguard. Wardlow gets more and more over every single week. The chants are louder and more passionate, the lack of entrance music emphasising them, and the big man looks excellent in everything he does between the ropes. Here, that meant crisp, punishing punches, landing on his feet from a moonsault, and selling for the biggest opponent he has ever faced.

Morrissey works a more traditional style than last week's opponent, Lance Archer, but still demonstrated himself more than a big, lumbering stiff. His leapfrog spot was inspired.

Hordes of security staff ran into a Wardlow-shaped buzzsaw after the bell. The Face of the Revolution has had enough. No longer content to play MJF's games, he looks to be on the verge of finally getting his hands on Max, who will outline the terms of their agreement where he is safest: Long Island.

The year's most effective star-making process continues.
