5 Ups & 4 Downs From AEW Dynamite (April 17 - Results & Review)
1. Chris Jericho Gets His PPV Match
In a match nobody wants to see, Chris Jericho set up his mandatory pay-per-view arrangement with HOOK in a face-to-face segment moderated by Taz.
Jericho "coined" the "Jericho Vortex" and claimed that, if only HOOK would listen, he could follow the career paths of MJF, Orange Cassidy, and Daniel Garcia - lol - by sitting under his learning tree. Hilariously, Jericho didn't mention Sammy Guevara. Jericho has mentored him for almost as long as WCW Nitro existed and Guevara is a panda bear head away from being in the exact same position. He's actually worse off, if anything. There's a stigma where there was once potential. The idea to implement Taz here was clever, mind.
Jericho dressed him down, saying that if he'd done a half-decent job bringing up his son, HOOK might not be so insolent. HOOK - with a really well-timed deadpan - at last refused Jericho's help. He doesn't need it. This sparked further tension between Taz and Jericho. Taz got shoved into the ropes. This sparked an elusive emotional response from HOOK, who told Jericho to get out of his ring. It was announced later in the broadcast that they'll meet at Dynasty. Of course they will. Jericho needs the spotlight even if, audibly, nobody in the arena cares week to week.
This angle did get more over than his matches of late, to be very fair - but the handling of Jericho continues to be obligatory and spineless. This was a half-OK angle with no merit nor heat.
You have to wonder how Khan feels about this deep down.
