5 Ups & 4 Downs From AEW Dynamite (April 24 - Results & Review)
Ups...
5. Weird Timing, Decent Development
Last night's Dynamite was a baffling experience. The sequencing of the show and the content on it was just off in several different ways.
It began in earnest when Orange Cassidy was filmed limping onto the stage, the victim of a Trent sneak attack backstage. A Dynamite that doesn't start with a strong match is still strange enough, five years in, but launching the show with a midcard angle - and subsequently presenting the new World champion as a midcard act - was so weird and distracting.
This would have played far better had it all unfolded around the 40 minute mark. The gist is that Trent demanded Chuck Taylor emerge from the back and make a decision: who is his best friend?
In a good line, Trent said that Orange, a "narcissist pr*ck", was brought into be Trent's mascot, but he became Cassidy's lackey. In a fun and unexpected twist that built towards a Trent Vs. Chuck Taylor Parking Lot Fight - a really cool potential sequel, and one of those ideas so good you can't believe you didn't think of it sooner - Chuck called Taylor a "piece of sh*t".
Really odd way to start the show, but a neat way of advancing the programme.
