5. Tag Match Has Some Nice Moments

Viking Raiders Creed Brothers

While the tag match between War Raiders and the Creed Brothers was rendered moot later in the program, the two teams had a pretty decent little match that featured some good arrogant heel work on commentary from the New Day.

The match started slowly but picked up as it wore on, with the Raiders’ tandem offense getting fans up and then turning things over to the Creeds, who threw the bigger Erik and Ivar around a bit to really pop the crowd.

During the entire match, Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods spent their time on commentary observing that no one deserved a tag title match until they had won a bunch of matches. When it looked like the War Raiders might win, they got involved to prevent their rivals from earning a clear path to a rematch (an effort that was undone a short time later).

The most notable thing about this match was the fans coming to life for the Creeds, who have been in wrestling purgatory for a while now. The truth is that they’re a lot like Lyra Valkyria, in that their connection with fans comes mainly from their work in the ring, not promos or backstage segments. They need matches to showcase their talent and win crowds over, and this match served as a reminder of that.
