5 Ups & 4 Downs from WWE Raw (12 May - Results & Review)

4. Back In The Saddle

Gunther Jey Uso
WWE

WWE and Gunther himself love to point out that for 80% of the Ring General’s run in WWE, he has held a title.

Since losing his World Heavyweight Championship at WrestleMania 41, Gunther has been preoccupied with Raw’s announce team of Michael Cole and Pat McAfee, feuding with the desk jockeys for the past few weeks.

Monday, the Ring General returned his focus to a title, interrupting Jey Uso to belittle the current World Heavyweight Champion and to remind him that even if Jey survives Logan Paul at Saturday Night’s Main Event, he will have to contend with Gunther next month on the Raw after Money in the Bank.

Even if he loses or is somehow knocked off course in the run-up to 9 June, Gunther should be singularly focused on regaining his title, as holding a championship has become ingrained into his character’s DNA. Had he come out and jawed with Cole and McAfee, it would have been a travesty. Gunther (still regarded as one of the best wrestlers in the world) coming for Jey just feels right.

One could deduct points for this segment blowing right past Logan Paul’s title match next weekend, but honestly, Paul can’t be bothered to show up on television half the time and his matches have become sideshows rather than spectacles, so we’ll allow it.
