5 Ups & 4 Downs From WWE SmackDown (July 30)

3. Baron Corbin’s Desperation

Corbin has a real chance to properly get himself over here.

The way he begged for cash from Cena, then turned on his old rival when things didn't go his way was fun. The exact same could be said for Baron's run-in on the contract signing segment a little later - the unwashed heel almost poached that Universal Title match from everyone, and Roman wasn't gonna stop him.

This segment was great television from start to finish. Everyone involved, from Reigns and Paul Heyman, to Finn, Corbin and Cena, did their best to put over the importance of that main event slot at SummerSlam, and it worked. Plus, Baron's desperate last-ditch attempt to earn himself a payday almost tricked the audience.

One has to wonder how long WWE can resist the urge to turn Corbin. If they do, then they must be careful not to stomp all over the things that are working for him now. Namely, that all his old rivals find it funny to rip the p*ss out of him.
