5. "One Of The Great Tag Teams"?

AEW Collision Matt Sydal Christopher Daniels
AEW

Clearly, part of Tony Schiavone's job is to make everything feel like as big of a deal as possible. Still, describing Christopher Daniels and Matt Sydal as "one of the great tag teams" is just absolutely ridiculous.

Both Daniels and Sydal are well travelled veterans with a ton of credit in the bank amongst savvy wrestling fans, but Schiavone's comments - made during the opening Claudio Castagnoli vs. Brody King match as Tony hyped what was coming up - were utterly insane.

Yes, this tandem had a brief run with the ROH Tag Team Titles as 2006 rolled into 2007, but this supposed all-timer of a team have only tagged together 24 times dating back to '06. And in an AEW TV context, Daniels and Sydal had only teamed up three previous times; three matches which all resulted in losses. Even if you look at modern-day Ring of Honor, this "great" pairing has been on the receiving end of defeats to the Righteous, the Gunns, the Kingdom, the Gates of Agony, Aussie Open, and El Hijo del Vikingo and Komander here in 2023.

Hyperbole is part of the job when it comes to professional wrestling, but Tony Schiavone bordered on the ludicrous with this one.
