4. The Never-Ending Americano Saga
Is there anyone out there who is legitimately intrigued or interested in the El Grande Americano antics at this point?
The gimmick worked when Chad Gable – and his boundless charisma – was driving the story, but his injury has forced it into a strange detour with Ludwig Kaiser befuddling everyone as the “new” Americano. But rather than being played up for laughs or actually advancing as a storyline, they’ve simply rolled out two additional El Grandes, then jettisoned them this week for a straight tag match alongside Dominik Mysterio.
The tag match itself was ridiculously long for something that is mostly meaningless (two ad breaks for this match?). Sure, three of the four men will vie for the AAA Mega Championship this weekend, but that was hardly a selling point – El Hijo del Vikingo wasn’t even there to create the visual of the prize.
Perhaps they’re just biding their time until Gable is back and can actually do something meaningful, but the entire Americano (and Dragon Lee, for that matter) story has been on a treadmill for a good while now, albeit with some running partners.
