5 Ups & 5 Downs For WWE Raw (4 Aug - Results & Review)
1. Beyond The Headlines
You can always count on WWE to look at the surface of things and not even bother to scratch away the thinnest of veneers.
The company’s disgusting promotional tactic of bringing back Brock Lesnar while he is named more than 40 times in an active lawsuit against WWE and former chairman Vince McMahon, alleging sexual assault and sex trafficking, was bad enough on its face.
But WWE loves to lean in, as they spent all day promoting Lesnar's return on social media, and then went on Raw and bragged about how their videos generated 75 million views on social media in the first 12 hours. They also made sure to share headlines from various publications boasting about Lesnar’s return to WWE and the seismic reaction it generated. They just never bothered to note that just beyond those headlines on ESPN, New York Post, and other sites were paragraphs detailing exactly why Brock hadn’t been seen in WWE for two years.
It shouldn’t be shocking that WWE only cared about the headlines and not the fact that the details of Janel Grant’s suit accompanied nearly every mention of Lesnar, but here we are.
It’s also worth noting that Michael Cole stated during Raw that Triple H and Nick Khan told him that they approached Brock “a number of weeks ago” about returning to the company. Whether that’s factual or just part of the show is up for debate.
