5 Ups & 5 Downs From AEW Dynamite (18 May)

Ups...

5. Serena Shoots

Dustin Rhodes Serena Deeb
AEW

There was some awkwardness to Serena Deeb's in-ring promo. AEW's Women's World Championship contender stumbled over her lines at points and didn't always sound 100% locked in. Nonetheless, these minor flubs are forgivable when the content is so great.

Deeb was affronted on Dynamite. Her 'Professor' character works so well because of the massive chip on her shoulder. Here, she was incredulous at Tony Schiavone's assertion that Thunder Rosa was going to beat her at Double or Nothing. She then called Rosa's mentor, Dustin Rhodes, from the back, ripping into the beloved veteran with similar gusto. She shaved her head, enhanced her chest, and gave it all to make wrestling a better place for women and in here mind, Dustin was overlooking that.

Rosa eventually decided she'd had enough. Storming out from the back, she accidentally clocked Rhodes in the fracas, allowing Deeb to grab the belt and leave.

A good, focused segment that elevated the existing character dynamic.
