5 Ups & 5 Downs From AEW Dynamite (May 12)

4. Britt Baker Lays It Down

A good promo from Britt Baker, here, as the doctor linked up with Jim Ross to put the women's division to rights.

Ross referenced Baker interrupting Tony Khan's photoshoot with the AEW roster for Forbes. Having taken a dig at Hikaru Shida for creating the monster that would now dethrone her, Britt responded to JR by saying that by the time the magazine comes out, Shida won't even be the champion. Her opponent kept the division alive through a difficult year, but Britt is the heart, soul, and pulse of it, promising to make the scene stand on its own when she reigns.

Baker is at least a top-three talker in AEW. Giving her spotlighted interview and promo spots is always a good idea, no matter how short, because she has developed the ability to make you buy into whatever she's selling. Here, she presented Shida as a challenge worth conquering while ultimately guaranteeing victory, exuding a suitable level of arrogance throughout.

Her reign will be sweet.
