5 Ups & 5 Downs From AEW Rampage (Nov 18)
Ups...
5. Heel Athena > Babyface Athena
You need some good sh*t after all that ranting, huh? Here it comes.
Let's be real, Athena was going nowhere as a babyface in AEW. Turning her heel, giving her some wins and then programming her with ROH Women's Champ Mercedes Martinez (who showed up to fend her off on Rampage) is a massive improvement for the ex-Ember Moon then.
It remains to be seen if this will all work out longer term, but it's already more interesting than her face stuff was. Plus, hitting Aubrey Edwards is a surefire way to get heat from AEW's hardcore fans. Aubrey is a favourite amongst those folks, so Athena slapping her down was ace.
The camerawork was top notch here too - All Elite positioned a roaming cameraman right next to Edwards so they could catch her grimace and Athena looking all stone cold in the background. Hopefully, moments will like this will propel Athena to better things.
