5 Ups & 6 Downs From AEW Dynamite (25 Aug)
1. He Stole One!
Rarely is anything on AEW television egregious, so sharp is Tony Khan when it comes to knowing what he wants from his audience, but last night's Gunn Club vs. The Factory match was just that.
It isn't illogical to have the Gunns face off with QT Marshall's crew, given their Nightmare Family affiliation. Nonetheless, nobody with that surname has appeared on Dynamite since May. Billy, Colten, and Austin are a YouTube crew that aren't particularly over, and they went over a semi-pushed commodity in the most dismal fashion.
Yes, AEW pulled a distraction roll-up here. Colten Gunn stole one! Distracted by Paul Wight standing up on the ramp, a gormless QT was pinned for the three-count and made to gawk like a schmuck after the bell, asked to play the role of pea-brained WWE Raw dork but on a Wednesday night.
Nothing about the match itself was exciting enough to compensate for this. With some segments of the fanbase already struggling to invest in Wight vs. Marshall, this was the opposite of what AEW needed to do last night.
