5 Ups & 6 Downs From WWE WrestleMania Backlash 2022

3. Just A Match

Madcap Moss winning his bout over Happy Corbin absolutely was the right call Sunday night.

But it seems like through the years, one thing hasn’t changed: Corbin rarely can pull off a PPV/PLE-quality match. He’s a perfectly serviceable TV wrestler, but can anyone recall him having a truly memorable PLE match?

Sunday’s bout with Moss was fine, but it just seemed to plod along from signature spot, to chin lock, to comeback, to Deep 6, to sunset flip for the upset win. Moss definitely has something, but wearing the same goofy getup – suspenders, dress shorts, ¾ boots and socks – while still retaining the “Madcap” moniker isn’t going to help him be anything more than a midcard guy… or a goof.

It would be great to see Moss shed the image, start using his Riddick Moss name again, and showcase his athletic talents a bit more. Hell, he could keep the jokester persona and even “Madcap” as a nickname. But he’s always going to look like Corbin’s sidekick as long as he doesn’t change anything.
