5 Ups And 2 Downs From Last Night's WWE SmackDown (May 2)
1. Ziggler Labours Past Sin Cara
SmackDown was a middling night for in-ring action, with three of the evening's five matches accomplishing their goals effectively, and the other two falling short. Dolph Ziggler vs. Sin Cara was the show's second failure, because while it should have been a relatively straightforward squash to put 'The Show-Off' over, it was needlessly competitive, and felt more like filler than anything else.
Ziggler went 50-50 with a guy who has barely been seen in the past 12 months, and almost never wins. The enhancement talent got far too many licks in against a wrestler who's about to go toe-to-toe with one of SmackDown's biggest stars, and if the goal was to make Dolph feel like someone who can legitimately beat Shinsuke Nakamura, it failed.
The action itself wasn't even all that entertaining, with Ziggler's heat segment particularly dull, and Cara almost botching a suicide dive when his feet were caught in the ropes. It was a flop in every sense of the word, and did nothing to enhance the victor's position.
