5 Ups And 4 Downs From Last Night's WWE NXT (June 24)
2. Why Must NXT Interrupt Its Main Event?
This is a small but persistent niggle with NXT programming: why must the show feel the need to interrupt its main event with advertisements? Considering that NXT is a network-exclusive show and feels none of the program-structuring restraints of RAW and Smackdown, why do they artificially insert ad breaks into the most important match of the night? The show is only an hour long, it's not like the audience at home will be tired and feel their attention wandering. This isn't to advocate that NXT doesn't feature any ads, they do serve a purpose of giving the program some structure, but if the main event is supposed to be the biggest match on the card, telling the most important story, then it's important to maintain the audience's investment as much as humanly possible. Presenting the main event, traditionally a longer match, in its entirety helps to build tension and makes the whole bout feel more substantial. Throw in an ad, just before the main event. Heck, throw in two or three, but once the bell rings, let the wrestlers tell their story uninterrupted, especially if what's breaking up the action is a damn advert for WWE Shop.
