Lets not kid ourselves here. The feud between Rusev and Big Show is the same as the feud between Show and Brock Lesnar earlier this year: a placeholder until the next big thing comes along for the rising star. Show is on the downswing of a long and successful career, and he most certainly deserves a spot in the WWE Hall of Fame. But he is not going to be the one to end Rusevs reign of terror. But that doesnt stop fans from getting riled up at Rusev (who apparently now is described simply as a Russian despite a whole storyline about how the Bulgarian moved there) and chanting USA! constantly. A psychology professor could teach a class on how this age-old jingoistic storyline of a foreign baddie still works in 2014. http://youtu.be/-8slw476gnI?list=PLF0CB8E7B4C77DB61 Instead of just maintaining course to Sunday, WWE went the route of having Rusev tease tearing down the American flag, then kicking a U.S. soldier who rushed the ring to defend our flag. Theres cheap heat, and then theres this. Was it really necessary?
Scott is a former journalist and longtime wrestling fan who was smart enough to abandon WCW during the Monday Night Wars the same time as the Radicalz. He fortunately became a fan in time for WrestleMania III and came back as a fan after a long high school hiatus before WM XIV. Monday nights in the Carlson household are reserved for viewing Raw -- for better or worse.
