Oh look, it’s a favorite WWE trope: the Wacky Tag Partners Who Don’t Like Each Other.

In case you aren’t familiar with this, it’s an old WWF/E standard. You have two rivals who should be squaring off and have some outside force – typically a heel tag team – create a reason for the rivals to be on the same side of an argument, and then they “naturally” team up to face the heel tandem.

The forced-together rivals might co-exist, but they’ll try to show each other up, maybe short-arm their partner or one-up each other by beating up an opponent. Maybe they’ll turn on each other during the match or immediately afterward, or maybe they’ll just stare intensely at each other. But they won’t like each other.

We got that Monday with Charlotte Flair and Asuka teaming up in an impromptu triple threat tag match against the IIconics and Sasha Banks & Bayley. The match itself was fine, but we got a full dose of Charlotte and Asuka slapping blind tags on the other, right up to Asuka tagging in as Flair climbed up for a moonsault, cinching in the Asuka Lock for the win.

And then Charlotte turned on Asuka with a forearm smash off the top. Because they’re Wacky Tag Partners Who Don’t Like Each Other!
