5 Ups And 7 Downs From Last Night's WWE Raw (March 16th)

2. Barrett Gets His Heat €“ And Title €“ Back

For more than a month, WWE has run the angle where Bad News Barrett can€™t win a match to save his life. Ever since winning the Intercontinental Championship, he€™s lost nearly every non-title match he€™s wrestled, and he even lost his title itself, as it was stolen and has been passed around the midcard like a collection plate at church. Meanwhile, the six challengers (well, five, if you discount R-Truth mostly on commentary) in the WrestleMania IC title ladder match have taken turns beating Barrett and beating each other. The result is a slate that is on a level playing field, having basically gotten the upper hand and suffered a beatdown at the hands of each opponent. Then suddenly Monday night, Barrett lands four Bullhammer elbows and reclaims his Intercontinental Championship. After more than a month of looking weak and impotent, Barrett suddenly is booked like a champion, standing tall. This must be WWE€™s way of Barrett €œgetting his heat back,€ which is just sad on many levels to see. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nGxcYM-8dp4 It€™s particularly sad to see Daniel Bryan, Dolph Ziggler and Dean Ambrose €“ three insanely popular wrestlers who fans would have actually paid money to see battle Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania €“ mired in this mess of a feud. But the less said about that, the better.

Scott is a former journalist and longtime wrestling fan who was smart enough to abandon WCW during the Monday Night Wars the same time as the Radicalz. He fortunately became a fan in time for WrestleMania III and came back as a fan after a long high school hiatus before WM XIV. Monday nights in the Carlson household are reserved for viewing Raw -- for better or worse.
