5 Ups And 8 Downs From WWE Stomping Grounds

1. Dumpster Fire Of A Main Event

Wow. Just… wow.

That might be one of the worst PPV main event “matches” we’ve seen in a long time. Undertaker/Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 33 was bad, but at least it had gravitas. This had… Baron Corbin.

Corbin’s presence handicapped the match right away, and then sticking the gimmick of Lacey Evans as special guest referee made it worse. (However, the booking made sense from a storyline standpoint. Seth Rollins had bashed every potential ref with a chair, but he wasn't going to do that to Lacey.) Throw in how slow and boring the match was and you have a perfect storm for a dismal main event.

Fans quickly turned on the bout, chanting, “AEW,” “CM Punk,” “Boring,” and “This is stupid.” And who can blame them? The finish was fairly predictable: Evans cheats, Becky Lynch to the rescue, 1-2-3, end of match. Despite that, the bout went on for 18 minutes. Because we needed to pad out the show, apparently.

If you were looking for a way to kill a show dead, this was it. Just an awful main event only very slightly redeemed by giving us a double shot of Lynch.
