5 Ways AEW Is Outclassing The Competition Right Now
1. Giving Their Wrestlers Creative Freedom
If you've ever wondered why so many wrestlers are willing to jump ship to AEW, it's not because they want to meet Cody Rhodes.
One of the biggest problems with monopolised wrestling is that companies (particularly WWE) like to have strict control over what their stars say. This tends to manifest itself in heavy scripting and rehearsed promos that can feel soulless and shallow in the wrong hands.
Wrestling is an inherently spontaneous art form, at least regarding promos. Seeing a performer get on the mic and fire themselves up can lead to some memorable moments and allows for them to develop their characters organically. Some outstanding examples of this come in the forms of Chris Jericho, Jon Moxley and MJF, who've all thrived on AEW's non-restrictive style.
More than this, the wrestlers are also given freedom over their characters. While they don't have complete free reign, they are allowed to make their own decisions and don't have to adhere to the demands of a creative team who don't understand their characters.
It's no wonder that the AEW roster seems to be happy, as even when they aren't attaining success, at least they aren't being forced to play roles they don't want to play.
