5 Ways To Handle CM Punk's UFC Debut

5. Throw Him To The Wolves

One idea would be to take CM Punk and make an example out of him similar to what the promotion did with James Toney, and immediately toss him in there with someone who presents a lopsided mismatch. In effect, to send a message that UFC is not WWE and anyone who thinks otherwise is in for a world of hurt. Whoever that fighter is could get a nice bump in profile from the coverage the fight would get. The problem with this scenario is twofold: A) Dana White and the Fertittas don't hate money, and that's essentially what this would be is throwing away profit by having Punk embarrassed and ran out of the company after one fight. The other problem is B) No state athletic commission is going to sanction a fighter with a record of 0-0 being matched up with someone too far out of their league. Still, if they figure out a way to place him in the cage with a ringer, it would be a shocking way to welcome their new investment to the octagon, but don't expect this to happen. It's bad business all around.
