5 Weirdest Choices Of WWE Champion Ever

4. The Miz

The Miz was such an unmitigated disaster in his early days with WWE that it's a wonder he wasn't stigmatised, irrevocably, as a goof.

He was promoted as the host of the Diva Search because it was felt that his experience on MTV's The Real World would lend itself to orating in front of a live audience. It didn't quite go as planned. Miz instead dropped a total clanger of a promo, one which is nigh-on impossible to transcribe, on his first flagship appearance.

"Now to vote for these beautiful young ladies, you have to vote - go to - the - HAHA! - go to, uh, - go to WWE. Dial 86946..." It was the stuff of which careers were ruined, but Miz somehow sidestepped it - and a complete lack of in-ring comprehension - to become a midcard fixture. That was surely it. Miz did eventually learn grasp the promo part, but his ring work was often serviceable at best.

That didn't deter WWE from anointing him as WWE Champion in late 2010. He was a beneficiary of the era; not since 1995 had the company seen such a deficit of main event-level stars. He struggled for acceptance in the role, but did his best with an astonishingly bad hand. His match with the aged Jerry Lawler, at Elimination Chamber 2011, was a triumph. His performances did not warrant the shoddiness with which he was booked.

The Miz was never meant to be WWE Champion - but he has made a career out of confounding expectations. You wouldn't expect him to repeat the feat in this era of internet darlings - but then, that's what he does.
